Team Spotlight: Meet Jake Bastin

People are the heart of everything we do at Unwind. So, it’s important to us that our owners and guests know the people behind our team.

From time to time, we will introduce you to the incredible folks who make Unwind work for you. You’ll love getting to know our highly talented team and having a face to go with the names with which you interact.

Today, we’re spotlighting Jake Bastin, property manager for homes in Tennessee, Colorado, and Arizona.

What’s your name?

Jake Bastin

In what city do you currently live?

I live in Clarksville, TN.

Tell us about your family (including pets, obviously):

I have a wonderful wife, Brittany. She’s a second-grade teacher at Clarksville Christian School.

What is your educational background?

I studied English at Harding University.

Describe one of your favorite childhood memories.

One of my favorite childhood memories is spending time at my grandparents’ farm in southern Indiana. They had a large fishing pond with a rowboat, paddleboat, and dock. We’d feed the animals and then fish or climb trees all day. My grandma would fry the fish we caught for dinner, and I’ve never had fried fish that good since those days.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

I enjoy playing and coaching tennis, lifting weights, playing video games with friends, and spending time with my wife!

What was the last really good movie you saw?

The last really good movie I saw was Dune Part 2 in Imax.

If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I would like to explore the western United States: the Badlands, the Black Hills, and the Grand Canyon. Visually, those places are so different from the spots I frequently travel to, and it would be amazing to be surrounded by a different kind of nature.

What is a core value that guides your life? Why is it important to you?

One of my core values is kindness. Being kind costs nothing. It is not about giving of yourself to your detriment for the benefit of others. It is about seeing situations from another’s point of view, and giving what you’d like to receive in return.

What is one of your favorite things about being part of the Unwind team?

I love being able to work with close friends and build strong bonds with those whom I met through this job.

What happens when you do your job well?

Ultimately, I see my job as that of a helper. When I do my job well, I feel satisfied knowing I successfully helped someone.

In your opinion, what sets Unwind apart from other vacation property management firms?

Everyone on the Unwind team shares mutual respect, admiration, and appreciation for one another. There is an incredibly strong support system, and I know that any time I need guidance, information, or a helping hand, any of my co-workers are eager to be there for me.

Is there anything else you’d like to add about being part of the Unwind team?

Working at Unwind really does feel like being on a team. Everyone’s skills are complementary and unique.
