The story of Silver Dollar City begins with Marvel Cave, a natural wonder that attracted explorers and tourists alike. In 1950, Hugo Herschend acquired a 99-year lease for the cave, and following his passing, his wife Mary and their sons transformed the area above it into a re-creation of an 1880s Ozark village. On May 1, 1960, Silver Dollar City welcomed its first visitors, featuring authentic structures, demonstrating craftsmen, and live reenactments of historical events.

A Brief History

Magic Springs first opened its doors on July 22, 1978, under the management of Leisure and Recreation Concepts. Over the years, the park underwent several ownership changes and faced financial challenges, leading to a temporary closure in 1995. However, after significant revitalization efforts and community support, the park reopened on May 27, 2000, as Magic Springs and Crystal Falls. In 2017, the park was acquired by EPR Properties, with Premier Parks, LLC taking over its management. Today, it operates under the name Magic Springs Theme and Water Park, continuing to provide memorable experiences for visitors of all ages.

Among the standout attractions is the X-Coaster, a unique roller coaster that delivers heart-pounding inversions and twists. The story of Schlitterbahn began in 1966 when Bob and Billye Henry, along with their three children, took over a small resort along the Comal River. Their vision to enhance the guest experience led to the addition of water slides, and by 1979, the waterpark was officially opened. The name “Schlitterbahn” combines the German words for “slippery” (schlitter) and “road” (bahn), reflecting the area’s rich German heritage. Over the decades, the Henry family introduced groundbreaking attractions, solidifying Schlitterbahn’s reputation as a pioneer in the waterpark industry. ​

  • Blastenhoff: Home to the Master Blaster, Black Knight tube slides, and the Torrent River, this area offers high-adrenaline experiences.​
  • Surfenburg: Features the Boogie Bahn surfing ride and Dragon’s Revenge, catering to surf enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike.​
  • Schlitterbahn West: Offers a more relaxed atmosphere with tube chutes and access to the Comal River.​
